We got tired of screens showing the wrong thing
CanPlay came out of running displays the hard way — USB sticks, a spare laptop in a cupboard, and somebody driving between sites to fix a typo.
Most signage software is priced and built for estates of thousands, and it shows. The setup assumes an IT department, the hardware assumes a budget line, and the interface assumes somebody trained on it.
We wanted the opposite: something a shop manager could change between customers, running on a box that costs less than a week of the subscription it replaces.
So the player runs on ordinary Android hardware, the editor works like the video tools people already know, and the whole thing keeps running when the network does not — because in the real world, it will not.
What we optimise for
Time from idea to on-screen, measured in seconds.
Hardware you can replace from a local shop.
Failure modes that degrade quietly instead of going black.
An interface that does not need a training session.
